oahu to big island tour

Oahu to Big Island - Grand Circle Island Tour

Only a 45-minute flight away from Oahu, yet worlds apart, the Big Island of Hawaii is a site to behold. Your arrival, into the middle of a lava field, might almost seem like a moon landing. The airport runway is built on a solidified lava field created by the eruption of Mt. Hualalai in 1801.

On this day tour, you’ll circumnavigate the Big Island and enjoy plenty of great photo opportunities. You’ll visit the lush coffee growing region in the mountains above Kona and stop at the Royal Kona Coffee farm. Notice how the extraordinary coffee bean trees flourish among other indigenous vegetation adding to the astonishing beauty of the area. The coffee growing region is at a high enough altitude that you’ll be able to see the pristine waters of Kealakekua Bay.

Soon it’s back to lava fields where different hues of solidified lava reveal the Big Island’s past volcanic activity. At Punalu'u Beach, an amazing black sand beach, you might see nesting sea turtles.

The excursion continues to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you’ll visit the top attractions in the park, including the Jaggar Museum and the Thurston Lava Tube. Active Kilauea is still erupting and smoldering craters abound in the park. If conditions are safe, the tour will circle the entire main crater on the spectacular Crater Rim Drive.
